The same color chart is also in Josh's Cord book " The Timeless Classic", so I would have to assume that the chart in "The Timeless Classic" is a simple carry over .
I have to go with info directly from factory references. Engineering change records are written by those working to produce the cars. The color charts put out by the museum for the 37's is a copy of factory info from another factory source that has Auburn Automobile Company at the bottom of the page where the black #32 color combination is found and swatches of leather and cloth.
Mistakes can easily be made and not caught when putting out a completely new book.

The color chart in the back of Josh Malk's "The Complete Cord" shows the light gray contrasting interior with the black exterior on both 1936 and 1937 closed cars. Anyone can make a mistake, but Josh put a lot of research into the making of that chart.

Don't have the training to do that. I recently pulled out one window surround to try for a color match as that same grey color is called out for the wheels on a black 36 open car. Haven't got that accomplished yet. When I get a color code i will post it.

Hello John,

Do you have any pictures of your ‘36 interior? An original colour example would be a real treat to see.

P.S.
The #7134 grey called out in the engineering changes for the 1936 Cords is not even close to the grey shown in the pic. It has more of a tan hue than a silver hue. I say this because I have a black 1936 1500A with enough of the original interior to make this statement.

A black 1937 Westchester would have a burgundy interior per the museum color charts and page 35 of the engineering change manual.
Only a 1936 black Westchester would have a grey instrument panel and garnish moldings.

You will note in this picture the garnish moulding is black whereas originally it should have also been light grey acording to the Colour and Trim Combinations for 1936.
The light grey you select should be in unison with the light grey broadcloth you have.

Hi Gary,

Yes indeed - it’s a ‘36 810. Is the light gray colour on this one what it’s meant to be?

The picture you offered appears to be a 36 810 dash. Not a 37 812 dash. Reason I mention this is the glove box doors do not have the locks as the 37 cars have.Nice looking dash too.

Black/light gray colour combination was created by Emporator
The colour combination of black/light gray is what I’ve decided to run with for the restoration of my Westchester, 812 1600K. In all the years of seeing black Cords there’s only been one I’ve seen with a gray dashboard, with the vast majority being black. Can anyone tell me what shade of gray was used to compliment the black? I’m keen to do a proper restoration and get the details right. Attached is a picture of the black/light gray combination. Is this about right?
