Things are moving along and progress is being made. May now need a set of gaskets for the Shebler Mod U carb. Does anyone have a source for these?
Thanks

Try putting  tablespoon or two of oil in each cylinder and see what the compression is. If the cylinder walls are dry you will not get a correct reading.

What makes you think you have a compression problem? If you installed new pistons and rings but have not run the engine the rings will not have seated in the bores. Thus you will not have good compression untill the rings have seated. Thats presuming the cylinders were honed with a cross hatch pattern. Heads a blocks should be checked with a machinest straight edge!

Does anyone know the correct compression ratio for this engine?

Mike, I wish there was a LIKE button to check !

The car isn't running so the test was done cold and dry. Head and block appeared to be OK and yes the head was torqued down properly. Probably going to check rings next. Thanks vey much for the reply.

Were the cylinders bored? I think the compression should be more like 85 to 95. Did you have the carb. wide open when doing the comp. check? Are the valves adjusted properly? Was cylinder head and block surfaces flat? Is cyl. head torqued properly? Comp. gauge accurate? Just some things to check.

Hello to all. I am working on my 1930 8-95 and seem to be having compression problems. New ring, pistons, valves, & gaskets have been installed. My question at this point is what should the compression be at 5200 feet. Compression is only at 35-50 depending on the cylinder. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Much
