Fellow Auburn Cord Duesenberg Club Members,
The ACD Board of Directors had our June Board of Directors Meeting on Saturday, June 20th virtually. During this meeting we discussed the 2020 Annual Labor Day Reunion in great detail. Since our March Board of Directors meeting, members of the Board have been looking into various options to safely proceed with our planned Reunion. After much investigation and discussion, we came to a decision.
The Board of Directors does not feel that we can provide a safe environment for our Club volunteers and members during in-person events, and we voted to cancel our scheduled events over Labor Day Weekend.
We understand how important our Annual Reunion is to our Club members and this was not a decision that the Board of Directors took lightly. We contacted and were contacted by many members to listen to and discuss all options prior to our decision. Among the factors considered were the health and welfare of our volunteer workforce, many of whom would be unable to attend this year, current CDC and State guidelines and unknown conditions that may be in place over Labor Day Weekend, travel restrictions for attendees, and the resources needed to provide safe events. We adamantly felt that the health and safety of our members needed to be paramount when making this difficult decision.
We know that many members will be very disappointed that there will not be Club-sponsored events in Auburn. We, as Board Members, are also disappointed, and have been working to come up with alternate ways to commemorate our 65th Reunion.
We will be offering a "Virtual Labor Day Annual Reunion" for which members can register. We understand that a virtual event is not the same as an in-person event, but we also recognize the importance of our Reunion tradition and our community. We might not gather as an official group this year, but we can still celebrate the 120th Anniversary of the Auburn Automobile Company and Women Behind the Wheel.
More details will follow in separate communications, but all Club members will have the opportunity to sign up for the "Virtual Reunion," and will receive the 2020 Annual Reunion dash plaque and a few other goodies in the mail. All members will also have the opportunity to send in pictures of their ACD cars to be included in our ACD Newsletter #5 Reunion Pictorial Issue and posted on our website.
At 10:00am on Sunday, September 6th, the ACD Club will host its Annual Meeting that will be broadcast on Zoom. A link will be sent out to current Club members. Please join us.
We have had discussions with the ACD Festival: they have not yet voted or made a “final” decision on what they plan to do but are tentatively moving forward with plans for events over Labor Day Weekend including the Parade of Classics on Saturday, September 5th. We will pass along information as we receive it.
We are grateful to have such dedicated Club members and look forward to planning next year’s ACD Club Annual Reunion. We appreciate your continued support and dedication to the ACD Club and to the preservation and continuance of Auburns, Cords and Duesenbergs.
