Guys:
Here are a couple of photos showing three different models of the Winn Synchrometer that I have identified so far.

I am just reading these postings. I am fortunate to have the Winn Synchrometer given to my late father by Francis Kusobke (mechanic for George Whittel's 7 Duesenbergs). Indeed these are neat little gadgets. This one has all the original lightbulbs and accessories, still in the branded wooden box. Anyone wanting photos with the idea of publishing, let me know.

Cordially,
John Baeke, Jr.

Ethan & Josh:

I'll get to work on an article. Thanks for the encouragement.

The development of these instruments between 1930 and 1933, when all the new V-12 and V-16 engines were introduced, is facinating. The instruction sheet for the first model Winn Synchrometer, circa 1928 and covering only straight six and straight eight engines, is only one page. The instruction manual for the last model, circa 1932 and covering all the new V engines, is 19 pages long. Every make of V engine had a different calibration. There were also some engines with simultanious dual point ignition as well as the alternating ignition like our ACD cars have. In all cases, accurate synchronization is essential for a good starting and running engine.

best regards,
Steve

The Newsletter article only described the Winn unit, and not in that much detail. An article on synchronizing tools would be welcomed, Steve. Lots of photos, please. My addresses (postal and email) are on the inside cover of the Newsletter. Thanks from all of us.

I have a Allen, and use it on both L-29 Cord and Auburn. See one type of syncrenizer or other at Hershey every year

There was a discussion, with photos, of the Winn Synchrometer in issue 2006-5 of our Newsletter.

Do you think this subject would be interesting to enough members to warrant an article for the Newsletter?

Yes, I do with a Cord as the test puppy.

Mr. Turner:
I would be happy to do so. I also have several of the other competitive brands of dual point synchronizing tools of the 1930s by Mo-Gil-Ner, Bear, Niehoff, and Ballou. Will try to get some photos posted next week. Do you think this subject would be interesting to enough members to warrant an article for the Newsletter?

Steve

Hello:
I collect Winn Synchrometers and can help you with both your requests. There are four different variations of the Winn Synchrometer. If you can send me some photos of your instrument, box, and accessories that you have, along with your phone number, I will evaluate it for you. My direct email is <a href="mailto:[email protected]][email protected][/url]. Phone is 812-477-5916.

Winn Synchrometer was created by ASm73
Can anyone assist in locating an instruction brochure for the Winn Synchrometer and/or help identify all the accessories and components that were supplied with it?
