I had a Pacer in Switzerland many years ago but doors where to low so you allways banged the lower corner on the sidewalkstones.

Have a look at Mitsubishi Pinin Pajero they rust allredy in the prospectus and even more in real, no rust perevention between the steelconstruction and the backdoors open to the sidewalk side !! They are realy the worst in last 10 years, exept for runninggear that is excellent ! <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt="" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: -->

The more i know, the more i realize that i don't know enough.

When I bought these AMC cars from the AMC dealer when there were new, Gremlins still in the lot, I chose these front wheel drive jobs instead, I drove them untill I parked them in the back woods about twenty years ago, they make a good home to a possum family. They only made about 70 of the sx4, Tegue had something to do with these. I may get to them someday, but what would the possums do?

That's because this is a list of worst cars. Cars have engines.

I didn't know that! He needs to be added to this list:

The article must have been written for interest, not many of the readers would remember many of the cars listed. I needed a gas save so I purchased a 50th anniversary Thunderbird. It gets a good 28 mpg, turns heads, four airbags, FMC brakes (cheap replacement brake pads and roters), 280+ HP, awesome 6cd radio. Heated power bucket seats, power windows and many more things. They only built these for a few years and the anniversary blade model for 6 months. I bought it while they are still cheap.

I wonder how this car would fare on the 100 worst cars.

It's not a good idea to compare a Ford T to a Yugo. At least the model T had a "bullet proof" engine that lasted for years.

The Model T had to be crude to sell at its price. The crudeness was why it succeeded.

The SSR tried to be too many things for too many people. A year after the last one was discontinued, a line of brand-new ones were still for sale at the local Chevy dealer.

Pacers can be cool too. I put this one together a few years ago:

The article begins by bashing the model "T".

Quote: "And by the way, with its blacksmithed body panels and crude instruments, the Model T was a piece of junk, the Yugo of its day."

It ends bashing the 2002 SSR pickup.

Quote: "The SSR also violated a principle of hotrodding. Hotrods are homemade subversions of the existing order, mechanical folk art. There is no such thing as a factory hotrod. Seems obvious, in retrospect."

There should be a contrary position to this article, any vehicle produced before 2005 would fail Dan Neil's quality test.

No argument about the barbecue part, but at least the Pinto had a decent engine.

I have never understood why people seem to either love or hate AMC cars. I have been around quite a few of them in my "career" and all but one were excellent vehicles.

The Pinto hatchback was "the barbecue that seats four." The Pinto station wagon was a perfectly fine car. My parents used one from 1974-1989, no problems. It was then replaced, a combination of it being wrecked and my being born, with an Escort, which really was a spectacular piece of crap.

AMC products get a bad rap. They were different. There's nothing wrong with that.

I cringe every time I see one of these lists because the authors generally are pretty clueless. As an example they include the AMC Gremlin and Ford Pinto but [i:1a3zygqb]not[/i:1a3zygqb] the Chevy Vega?

You won't find any Auburn, Cord or Duesenberg Automobiles in here!

Fascinating reading.
