Another push through the carb. is 57 Ford blower. They work very nicely with 300HP of 312 Y-Block.

There are actually even more sub-categories of blowers, based on whether they are driven by exhaust gases (turbo-chargers), by a gear train from the engine or by fan belts. Positive-displacement superchargers may be either Roots type (2 or 3 interlocking lobes) or vane-type. Centrifugal blowers are essentially a fan. The Cord used a centrifugal supercharger, driven by bevel gears from the center of the camshaft.

Blowers can be divided up between roots & centrifugal, and then further between those that push through the carb and those that pull. Further still, but constant and on-demand.
If you are interested, check out my page on Stutz blowers which I think were the neatest of all, activated by the driver they pushed through the carb. A very similar setup to the pre-war Mercedes Benz. While Mercedes perfected theirs, the Stutz setup wasn't quite right. George Holman has recently worked the kinks on his dyno and figured out how to get a push blower working perfectly.

All superchargers, regardless of how they're driven, do the same job. They provide more air than normal atmospherics can provide, and to maintain your 15:1 fuel gas ratio. allow the engine to accept more gas.
More horsepower.
'About the only alternative is to inject the engine with pure oxygen.
