I just bought this on eBay. Wow, Milwaukee is a long way from upper Michigan!

As many of you know, I'm a wealth of information about TX oil man M.F. Yount. I've always been curious as to where he purchased his first two Duesenbergs. The 1929 article about his new Duesenberg and L-29 state he purchased them from "The Stutz company in Louisiana." I would surmise that this refers to a dealership in New Orleans where he frequently traveled on business....and monkey business

Absolutely, Josh, I will share what I have learned since starting the [i:2obsflqo]Lost Dealership Project[/i:2obsflqo]. As entries began rolling in the host forum was actually reconfigured in order to better organize and present the information. Perhaps in time something similar can be done here as well. I'm looking forward to getting started!

With your experience with AMC dealers you have probably developed a format for listing the information. This deserves an article in the Newsletter urging members to photograph and document, perhaps with the suggestions that come from experience about how to do this. Will you write something for me to work with?

We can also do small articles from time to time, with photos, of what the "gatherers" turn up.

Great project, Scott. Thanks.

There are a lot of similarities between to two companies, even a bit of overlap: Fred Duesenberg was employed as one of the first Rambler test drivers!

Hi AMX, I am a huge fan of Rambler, AMC, when Dick Teauge was at the helm they were a force to be reckoned with, the demise reminded me of the ACD tale where key elements of the company left leaving the deck to fall.

I don't have any more info on the ashtray, I would like to have a dinner set of plates with matching metal goblets, forks and spoons.

Lets use our metal detectors in these former dealership parking lots and see if anything turns up under the asphalt!

Many of the AMC dealerships have already been extensively remodeled or even removed. As long as I have an address I photograph what is currently on the site. One former dealership here in my hometown is now a public parking lot! By documenting them online we are preserving automotive history as many of these locations would be completely forgotten otherwise.

BTW that's a great Cord platter, ashtray, award? What is it!

This location search is a great idea!

I was hoping someone in Los Angeles would photograph the Wilshire Blvd dealership building surviving facade and the side ramp, if it still exists, and post it on the web site.

There were quite a few dealers so this could be a lucrative search in every major city.

If the buildings still stand they must have gone thru some major remodels so they may not be recognizable. There are probably lot's of address on the matchbooks, manuals, brochure's etc.

Recently I acquired this ashtray, I asked the fellow where it was unearthed. He began to tell me how he was remodeling 727 11TH Ave New York City.

The building where this ashtray was found was to become the future Food Channel TV studios.

This artifact was found unwanted, in the back of an old desk upstairs, thas was to be discarded. The location was used for the offices of a Nash Auto dealership that was at the location.

One would have to surmise the location may have been a Cord dealership in the thirties?

Sounds good to me! I'll write up something for the newsletter after I get my first copy. In the meantime if anyone has any business cards, invoices, rubber stamped brochures, license plate toppers, etc from any ACD dealership post it here.

As with AMC, you wouldn't have to chase them down yourself. But how about getting this rolling for ACD dealers too? An article for the Newsletter and an announcement in the Forum should get responses. Waddaya think?

I started a project like this over at the AMC camp and it has really taken off. People all over the country have tracked down and posted pics of former dealerships. Many of these buildings still have faded signs up! I'm sure American Motors sites are a bit easier to find though since the company has only been gone 20 years, not 70.

I'd like to research any NE Ohio ACD dealerships, anyone know of any?

Not that I know of, but it would be a fun history project. Would be useful to try to document the years, since some would have sold L-29s and some 810/812s. More of the former, I'll bet.

Has anyone compiled a list of original ACD dealerships? It would be interesting to know if there was a distributor nearby to be able to visit the site and document what is there currently. Here is one from Oregon:
