A lot of our younger members have the same fascination about Gordon Buehrig, E.L. Cord, Ab Jenkins, and others who were gone before our time. We get to know them through the beautiful cars they left behind and the biographies written about them.

For me it's George Whittell, the man who bought seven Duesenbergs and lived the high life on the shores of Lake Tahoe. Not always the class act he appeared to be, but a fascinating fellow with exquisite taste in automobiles!

I understand that Richard Teague had a great collection of antique cars, both real ones and toys. I only wish I could have met him before he passed away. At least I have several examples of his work to enjoy.

Mr. Teague told me once that his decision to become a car designer was all started by the arrival of a '36 Cord at his school in Los Angeles. Probably several designers of the '50s were similarly influenced. He always liked the antiques, though.

Welcome Scott,
Glad you joined. I will be on the VMCCA Presidential Tour in OH. this summer and another tour also. Maybe I'll see you around. Look for a blue L-29 Cord Cab. or a black 1935 Auburn Speedster.
CORDially Mike

Wow, I know that Javelin well! It belongs to a chapter member who lives near 77 and S. Arlington. Are you from Akron then?

Tonight I'm joining the ACD Club. Had to clear it with the better half first!

There's a 67 or 68 Javelin I see at cruise ins around here, maybe you've seen it too. Its sort of a deep 'Corvette blue' with with a hopped up 232 and a standard trans. Nothing fancy, but I like it.

My dad & I had any number of AMCs with that engine over the years. If treated halfway decently, I don't think you could kill one.

Hi Mike, I've never made it to Stan Hywet yet, maybe I'll try this year. I was invited to the Glenmoor Gathering several years ago but couldn't go (I don't remember why).

This year we are attending [i:15g357rg]The Masterpiece[/i:15g357rg], a concours event in Milwaukee. The complimentary feature marque there is Javelin and AMX and our car has been invited, with us tagging along of course.

Funny, we seem to make all of the out of state shows and miss a lot of the ones close to home.

Join us Scott! There are a few of us A-C-D oddballs right in your area.

Do you ever go to the Stan Hywet Father's Day Car show in Akron? It's an Ohio Region CCCA event, but we usually have a few A-C-D cars in attendance.

Hi Scott,
I'm the member with the pink slip, but your AMX pink doesn't quite match. If you are interested in ACD cars and would like to buy a 810-812 Cord someday the best way to find one is to join the club. There are cars for sale in every Newsletter and a wealth of information that Club members will share with you.
We would love to have you as a member. You will find a membership application on the homepage under "join"
CORDially Mike

Welcome to the ACD world. Enjoy the hunt, and the car (once its found)!

Was the 1-of-2 AMX you had the bright pink car? We have a member who needs something to match a certain slip and he may be interested in locating it. :D

Hello Everyone was created by Ohio AMX
Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I've been an old car fan forever starting when I subscribed to Cars & Parts magazine when I was 9 or 10. This introduced me to many of the American classics I still admire. Before long I belonged to an automotive postcard club along with Richard Teague, then VP of styling at American Motors. We were penpals for a while and I still treasure the autographed brochure he sent me when the Pacer was introduced. Around this time Mr. Teague wrote the Foreword page for Gordon Buehrig's book [i:3p3fihsf]Rolling Sculpture[/i:3p3fihsf]. My parents bought me this book for Christmas that year and it really cemented my appreciation of the styling of the Cord 810/812.

By 1980 I was looking for my first car and decided on a well used 1969 AMX 2-seater sports coupe. That was the first of over 30 AMC's I have owned since, including a rare (1 of 2) AMX I recently restored which is profiled in Tom Cotter's latest book, [i:3p3fihsf]The Hemi in the Barn[/i:3p3fihsf]. In the early '80s I had a couple of books published myself which were the first AMX and Javelin reference books ever done. They occasionally show up on eBay usually at many times their original cost.

I currently have a few other interesting car projects waiting their turn, including my first car which I found and bought again in 1997! As I approach my mid 40's it seems like the right time to also explore some of the other styling masterpieces I have admired for decades, like the Cord and Avanti. I have already owned a 1967 Cougar XR7 and Lincoln Mark VII LSC which are also favorites.

Anyway enough about me. I am enjoying this forum and have already learned a lot. I'm sure there will be lots of newbie questions, especially after I find my Cord! :D
