If I had an extra hand, I would give 3 Thumbs Up! to Kaghann's Korner.

Mike Pingatore, his girfriend, and a couple of us always go to KK at Midnight on Friday after 9th street. Great breakfasts!

Then it's back to 9th street for some more vocational school with beer.

The first time or this time (the 2nd).

I haven't eaten there yet. If you are familiar with the area and know the truck stop in Waterloo called Kaghann's Korner - The owner of KK purchased the Auburn House. I'm sure she'll be open to your suggestions or comments. Not sure if she still owns Kaghann's Korner or not, but I wish her the best of luck with the Auburn House.

Tho the food is important, I think it's the groups that met down at the Auburn House that made the Auburn House. It was a social gathering spot for many business owners and other groups. Just glad to see the doors open again and not another empty building.

I ate there on SAT morning. It was OK, but the scrambled eggs on the buffet were hard. Most buffet eggs are however. The hash browns were a little fishy.

I think the breakfast buffet is about the same as it was before it changed hands. The place was pretty busy. I was there from 7:30 to 8:30 am.

Thought the family would give it a try Friday evening... buffet was $9.99, including drink, for those 12 and over. Full menu, and breakfast anytime..

Food was less than ok... still tasting the fish 2 days later (chicken was ok, meatloaf.. well, see next line)...
and, spent quite a bit of Sat. on "the throne"...
too bad... but, I will give them the benefit of the doubt and go back to try breakfast buffet..... that's what I always preferred anyway.

Coffee was excellent as it always was....
Also, did not see any ashtrays, and the place smelled clean and fresh. Most of the license plates and all the ACD posters are still up... but, noticed the Elvis clock over the buffet was gone.

We stay in Auburn every year from Weds. thru Labor Day weekend, leaving Monday. We never eat fast food that weekend, and rarely at the same restaurant twice. All things considered, I think the food's pretty good in the Auburn area.

Good! I won't have to eat McDonald's every morning for three days in a row next time.

That said, stop your complaining! I'm now spending most of the year in a college town that is, as of this morning, home to two pizza places, McDonald's, and a diner filled with clouds of cigarette smoke (to which I'm allergic). The only upside is that we have a Starbucks in the student center, so that I can get my yuppie coffee.

I think that unconsciously I have always thought of the City of Auburn as "Brigadoon". A place that magically appears for a weekend once a year, then vanishes until we out-of-town ACDers show up again the following year. (Or perhaps as a stage set that is struck on the Tuesday after Labor Day, and re-erected in late August.) Of course that is both silly and unfair to the many who call Auburn home, but since when are unconscious thoughts rational?

Sure, we miss places that close and are not available for our convenience on Labor Day weekend. Hard to remember, sometimes, that they have to pay their way and earn a profit all year round until we pop up annually to enjoy the fruits of their efforts. Auburn is just a fun place for many of us. It's life for those who live and love and work there. Perhaps we should remember to thank them when we visit briefly each year.

Time was, we would usually eat there two or three times, but for the last few years, we have kept it to breakfast once over Labor Day weekend. The food had suffered, but I still hate to see it go. Be nice if someone else took it up, but wonder how much luck they'd have.

I've never eaten at either restaurant but as a food writer by trade and a lover of small-town restaurants, it's sad to see it go.

In other bad news....

The new owners of the Auburn House also own The Bread Basket. There's a chance they have a buyer, so I heard, but if not, there goes another restaurant in the downtown area - and we'll miss the cookies

In recent news... I've heard the following are coming to Auburn:
IHOP
A seafood chain
another Chinese restaurant  - we have 3 now.

There is are 3 Subways now... near the Hospital on the East side and in Wal-Mart. Tho I try to avoid the East end one. I ordered a BMT and asked for black olives and got 2 . I've heard this with other ppl as well. And there is a Ice Cream / Coffee Shop in the same area. And we now have a Starbucs on the west end where fazolis use to be, next to KFC.

The newer owners just couldn't make enough to keep the doors open. Maybe someone else will give it a try. This only leaves the downtown area with the BreadBasket and ??? Poncho Kelleys.

It definately had a morning crowd.

If I hear any more news on it... I'll post

Feels like an old friend has passed. What caused them to close? Where to go breakfast now?
