5/16 seems really small. That is about what I have seen on some fancy bolt action sporting rifles.

I know there is one Duesenberg, the Mudd Coupe, or one of the other well known Duesenbergs, has a dead area in the engine turned dash. the porter got a can of agresssive metal polish, abrasive, and decided to polish it. As you look at the old Jerry Moore cars look at the lower right corner of the dash. The engine turning was getting polished away. I caught hi before he did too much damage.

The engine turn pattern is in the 5/16 of an inch range with about a third overlap. You can buy round abrasive pads, or roll emory cloth, and build a straight line guide.

I would think that the car, being a custom job that anything would work from the elegant burled walnut and elm to to a piece of white pine. My personal choice would be black oxide with all the gages with black numbers/words on a white background.

Can anyone tell me what the diameter of the engine- turned dash cover pattern is?
And the distance of overlap? I am making my cover and wish to have a correct pattern; I do not have an original. <!-- s:?: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_question.gif" alt=":?:" title="Question" /><!-- s:?: -->

Hello Chris:
I once saw one on the south side of Chicago with a fake leopard skin dash cover. On second thought, that may have been a 1976 Eldorado and not a model J Duesenberg.

The catalog in the back of Elbert describes the finish as "engine-turned oxidized nickel." I have also seen ORIGINAL dashboards that were covered in leather and know of one that was originally finished in black oxide.

What are the different types of dash covers that were used on the J ?
Different colors for the metal facia? Different engine turned patters? Fabric?
