Later. I only subject my readers to one horror story per article. <!-- s:twisted: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_twisted.gif" alt=":twisted:" title="Twisted Evil" /><!-- s:twisted: -->

Perfectly all right with me. You can also run the about me dropping the L29 limo on the hood of the Murphy V-windshield sedan on the way to Meadowbrook. Most expensive car I ever wrecked.

Having heard this story from Bill before, I'll provide the answer: Jerry Moore and his legendary heavy hand with starter fluid.

Bill, I wouldn't mind running this tale in the Duesy Notes in the future, if it's alright with you.

Bill,

In an effort to educate an ignorant onlooker (namely me)....how does that happen? I assume it begins with a carburetor backfire? And that leads me to wonder couldn't a marine flame arrestor type of breather be used to avoid the problem?

Also a comment, since I grew up around these cars when their owners actually used them as regular transportation (back in the 50's) I cannot recall an instance when I saw a classic catch fire. Can't help but wonder why that is?

flaming Duesenbergs was created by
That Duesenberg on the cover of the ACD Newsletter, Volume LVlll, Number 1, 2010 I s one of the two Duesenbergs we had on fire very early Pebble Beach morning as we were unloading for the show. The other Duesenberg was the pale tan SWB DC Phaeton that Mr. Pass owned for years.

The Pass car cought on fire wiht hood closed, and we cleaned up the Ansul powder and showed the car with the hood open so the scorched areas would not show.

The other car car cought fire with the hood open, and the fire was confined mostly to the air cleaner so that, and my hands, were the only things that got fried.
