The Drophead Coupe was loaned to the museum by Larry Nicklin, the same man who owns the 1952 Ferrari they have had on display.

Does J-298 still have an original supercharger, or a Gephart? By the sound of the ad it has the original but you never know.

The right hand drive one that was in the ACD museum for a number of years, was a English bodied "Cab C" (5 place, no quarter window) which RM has had at a couple of it's recent auctions. It's worth a tad less (say 20-25%) of what a special roadster is worth.

Hi Randy, the red one I'm thinking of is definitely a first series Special Roadster (Not the long tail that you usually see). On the cover of the Road and Track is the owner (sitting in it) he bought it from (guy looks just like Major Mudd from Star Trek). It's a great great car. There are about 10 of the long tails (both 500k and 540k) around for each of the short

regards, A.J.

naturally the only picture I could find was a model but you get the idea.

Would look better without the papoose. I like the headlights though.

Beautiful car. The understated yellow paint color has aged well, unlike so many on 1970s restorations.

As I recall, the owner (a very nice guy) in NM had/has a Mercedes 500k Special Roadster that was on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1952? Same person? I didn't realize he sold his Duesenberg.

(Gotta love online translators, even if they mangle it a little.)

Check out this ad, from a German dealer, for a now-sold SJ Murphy Convertible Coupe. They claim this to be the prototype SJ, which would make it J-298 / 2530 (the engine and body from Fred Duesenberg's accident car, moved to a new chassis). Any comments?

J-298 was in New Mexico last I heard, with its owner of many years.
