Does anyone have any further experience with regard to seat belts in a Cord 810 / 812, particularly with a Convertible Coupe? If so, was it just a lap belt, or is there a system available that harnesses more fully?

Bill Hummel, have you installed seat belts in your Convertible Coupe?

Thanks,
Albert

Tom,

If you are restoring your car and plan on having it judged don't worry about the authenticity aspect of having seat belts installed but you should make sure they are installed it a workmanship like manner. Our judging rules take into account state laws that require safety items like seat belts, turn signals, etc.

CORDially,

Al Hatch

I used "aircraft style belts/flat ends/chromed buckles" Part #222-205 from www.mossmotors.com Look under search; "belts". They're manufactured by Bean in Oklahoma City, used for vintage sports cars and such. In the Cord, used existing anchorages inside trunk for back seats, and drilled floorpan behind front seat for fronts using the supplied extra large washers; Used Phaeton quarter cover knob pickups as anchors for shoulder belt with stainless bolts. I imagine the sedan would require a discreet B-post anchorage installed under the trim. <!-- s:? --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_confused.gif" alt=":?" title="Confused" /><!-- s:? -->

My 36 Westchester obviously came without seatbelts, and I had always thought that Montana law requiring seatbelts would have an exception for older cars. I happened to look at the statute today and find that there is no such exception.
What have others done about seat belt installation? I am assuming that where they have been installed they would just be lap belts, and not shoulder harnasses, but my original assumption about Montana law as clearly wrong, so educate me, if you would.
Lastly, is there a source that you can identify for seat belt installation in a Cord to include an installation guide?
