Steering Arm Bearing

Bronze bushings will not stand up to the loads in these areas. Do not try it.

I'm no engineer but I think if they could have gotten away with a bushing instead of a bearing they would have. A bushing is much cheaper than a bearing.

I installed my wishbone bolt with a nylon-locking nut, as per Josh Malks' advice.

My wishbone bearing appears to be in good shape, and I have a used bearing of unknown quality. However, I have to ask, could not a bronze bushing be used in lieu of this bearing? It'd be easy to machine, easy to lubricate via the zerk, and presumably solid enough to do the job.

Ditto for the trailing arm needle bearings?

Any engineers in the forum who could address this?

Thanks for all the cross referances to other cars. Its greatly apperaciated from this side of the screen. In my years of dealing with sellers sometimes it seems as soon as they realize the part they have fits a speciality car like the Cord well the price gors up. If any of you watch American Pickers you can see an item thats been sitting in a pile of crap for years but when Frank or Mike show interest in it the price usually goes up. But the day before it was junk till someone showed interest in it. People are so funny..

It is possible 1940- 41 Hudson used this 916 ND bearing, as I remember
a customer having lost the center bolt while driving but managed to stop in time. Driver walked back and found the bolt on the road !

The 1941 Chilton Flat Rate & Service Manual shows it as 900916 "jnter arm bearing", for
Cord '36, '37
Lasalle '35, '36 50 series
Olds '36, L and F series
Cadillac '36 60 series.

The 1941 price was a whopping $3, except that for the Cord it is described under the same number as
"Inter steering arm", price $9.20
No Buick application found.

New Departure 916. You will find them on ebay from time to time. this bearing was also used by Buick and Cadillac, so make sure you search ebay listings for all of these applications. If my memory is correct, the GM part number has additional prefix numbers but ends in 916.

Sorry, I am not familiar with the bearing that Stan sells for this application.

What is the bearing number for the center pivot bearing on the Cord steering? I saw one on ebay a few months ago and would like to see about buying one. Not sure if mine is shot but spare parts are always good to have.
I see Stan has a part number specific to his catalog. Its the 5016 part. Thanks for any help. None of my information answers my questions.
