I have a picture on my wall at the Ford Dealership of Glenn Petersen's L-29 Cabriolet and I've been told many times that it's a nice Ford Model A.

@Tim,

Did you explain that the Franklin was AIR-cooled, and the Cord is water NOT-cooled?

My favorite question from John Q. Public when I'm stopped next to someone at a traffic light is, "Is it real?"

I always respond with a polite, "Yes". If I have time, I like to give a quick list of the many firsts of the Cord 810/810 and how it ushered in the modern age of American automotive design. Unspoken is the response in my mind: "No, it's not real. It's your imagination. It will disappear when the traffic light changes if you'll just accelerate smartly."

My Beverly was identified by the wife of a friend of mine who owns two 30s Packards as a cute VW Bug

My Cord was positively identified as a Franklin! The gentleman would not accept no as an answer.

Good point mike. Here in Europe probably even less people know the Cord. Would be a tough job for the marketing department of the trademark buyer. But I hope somebody bought the trademark in order to revive it and not just as a "collectible". The publicity of a (hopefully excellent) new car could bring our cars a little bit more into people's minds. On the other hand the Cord badge on a new lemon car could be a desaster for us.

I'm afraid I have a better one Tom. I was driving my 35 Auburn Speedster in Auburn IN. , not on labor day, and some one sitting on their front porch hollered out at me "Is that a Pontiac"! I couldn't believe it!

Hi,

@Mike--my Westchester was vehemently and positively identified by a motorist at a Toll Road service plaza as an "Oldsmobile--I know because my father had one just like it!"

LOL,

That sounds good but you must remember that most people on this earth have never heard of a Cord or Auburn. We drive all across the U.S. and when people ask what kind of car it is, be it Cord or Auburn, 90%, guesstament, have no idea what that is.

E.g. one could do what Volkswagen does with the Bugatti trademark since 1998: establish it as high end brand in an international car producing enterprise. OK, perhaps the Duesenberg trademark would be more suitable for this purpose, but Cord could work too. Some aspects of the Cord history could be used to create a very innovative image for a new car. OK, one shouldn't talk too much about some other aspects ... :-)

Hi,

So, suppose you just plopped down a quarter-mil for the Cord trade mark. Now what would YOU do with it?

Cord Trademark was created by Kay
Seems as if the Cord Trademark has been sold by Leake Auctions last weekend. Quote from their Facebook site: "...[i:3jaz3526]The Cord Trademark has just sold for $220,000![/i:3jaz3526]..."
Less than I expected ...
