I seem to have located the problem that was causing my Cord to run rough. The distributor is worn enough that upon acceleration the point gap becomes too wide. By decreasing the gap it now runs much better.

Any suggestions as to who might be able to rebuild my distributor?

My experience is that the condenser is a great part to replace first.

Sidenote: I have pulled new condensers out of the box (5 minutes after picking them up at the Auto Parts store) to have them equally be bad.

Fortunately, a condenser is probably the cheapest part you will install in the mechanical system of your car.

And, NAPA has Auburn and Cord still in their books.

Thereafter, I would look to the coil - my beautiful Auto-lite authentic coil was nothing but trouble.

And after that I would look to switch and electrical connections.

By the way, I recently had a friend experience ignition problems to find out the bearing in the distributor was bad - and what was worse was they did not catch it quick enough and destroyed a very rare and expensive rotor and cap)

I ordered new points, condensor and rotor so if they don't help I will try the coil next.

Sounds like you narrowed it down to ignition but where is the tuff question. Might try replacing the points and condenser or taking off the points and looking at them under magnification for issues. Sounds like you "touched" something and finally made an open circut.

Running Rough then Not Running was created by snnau
When I take my Cord for a drive it starts out running fine. After awhile it starts to run rough and cut out on acceleration. I thought it might be vapor lock but I have an electric and manual fuel pumps and it happens even on cool days.

I decided it might be an ignition problem so I changed the plugs.
I took off the distributor cap and cleaned the points a bit.

Now it will not start at all.

Any suggestions?
