Undercoating

I'm at the stage where I need to re-apply the undercoating on my 810 Phaeton. What are the best materials, quantity of material required, applicator guns and techniques to use in this process.
Some preliminary discussions I have had with individuals indicate the original rough texture is difficult to do replicate with materials presently available. I would appreciate any help I can get with this phase of the restoration project.
