Just a note that you won't be able to manually move the shift lever that's on the nose of the trans, unless someone's holding the clutch pedal down. There's an interlock on the left side of the trans that's there to prevent the shift lever from moving except when you want it to (when the clutch pedals to the floor)

Here are some really nice pictures of the front drive trans and the shifting arm. Please ask questions if needed as to whats what in the pics.

Did you jack it up to see if the wheels turn? it could be that the brakes are frozen also, and possible the clutch Condensation is terrible. You will not hurt anything to just drag it up on the trailer, frozen wheel just make it harder to move. But once you've gotten where you want to work on it , jst take it apart and fix it.
My 2 cents

If the reason is the clutch is stuck to the flywheel you still should be able to press the clutch in. Get under the car with the clutch inspection plate removed and see if there is any clutch to flywheel clearance. If its stuck try prying it loose but be careful and not pry so hard that things bend or get ruined. Its sounds to me like something is locked up in the trans or gear in the differancial. Removing the front of the car trans cover is going to expose the trans shifting linkage. Its at the end of that cylinder thats vacuum controlled. You just move it to the center position. You will feel it go in and out of gears all the way forward and backward in the stroke. When its centered its in nuetral and wil slide from side to side across the "H" pattern for shifting gears like any other trans. Might also me the front brakes are locked up because of brake cylinder corrosion has expanded the cylinders pressing the brake shoes against the drums. If thats the issue its going to be tuff removing the drums. Please post back what works.

OK do not make this difficult, so what if the motor turns ,( but if it does not turn put a prop stick between the clutch pedal and the dash) and drag the car maybe the clutch will snap free as you are dragging it onto the trailer you use a winch to pull the car on to the trailer.

the heads are off-the problem with the jack is that I am attempting to roll the car, so I can get it on a trailer to move it. Can't well do that with a jack under it.

I will be sure to change the fluids as you say. Which tranny fluid is recommended and about how much fluid?

Thanking everyone for their advise.

Just jack up the front end on rolling jack- roll away. also can pop the plugs or pull the heads to lose compression. Sounds like some serious dismantling is coming anyways. Just in case -check for crap oil in tranny and engine before you try to turnt over the internals inside the engine.

Have fun

I would say since the car sat in Florida that the clutch is stuck, Florida is a very humid place so a lot of condensation rust accurs

interesting-did push clutch in and still seemed locked up

car has been sitting for about 30 years in a garage in FL-head was destroyed/eaten and new heads are going to be installed.
I will try pulling the cover-are there any indications of a neutral position once I take cover off?

thx for the quick reply!

Pushing in the clutch peddle will allow it to roll but to get it out of gear you can remove the front trans cover and manually shift the trans to neutral. Then find out why the trans is not shifting. Has the car sat for a long time not running. It would help to know what contition the car is in. Unrestored barn find or a sitting in a museum car.

Bought an 812 two years ago with no keys
car is always engaged- how do I get it into neutral to roll it?

The flatbed that picked it up had to drag it and I am afraid I am going to damage the trans.
