You are right Ethan, I only have one set of buckets and I did remove the springs trying to fit the glass lenses.
In place of the springs I plan to use foamy rubber, to simulate their functionality and help with waterproofing.
I tested grinding off the thick lips of the glass lenses with a dimond tool to make them thinner. If this works, I can use the rings I have.

First of all, all tail-lamps have three leaf springs riveted to the lamp housing equally spaced. These springs puts pressure in and upward direction to keep the lens in place, the chrome ring is used to retain the lens to the housing. It looks like you removed your springs. I gather you did this to fit this thicker lens. I see in the one housing that there are two studs still in place. They hold the tail-lite bucket to the body. Correct as I see it, as original. Check your other buckets to see if they measure up. There should be a flat about 1 inch long on the body.

Thanks Ethan, maybe the following will help.

I am aware that there are housings with spring leafs in them and also plain ones without them. I don't know if those two they have different dimensions, because I only have the ones with the spring leafs. (which I have removed).

Here are the dimensions:
Housing Inner diameter

And the Inner Lip elevation in the housing:

Here is the Width of the ring that fits well with the Plastic Lenses:

And it's Thickness:

Lenses have been reproduced and my thought these are those. It looks like the chrome rings are correct to me. The lenses look to be to thick. I need to look for mine to verify this. One other thought, are your housings the originals. These also were reproduced.

OOOppps dont know what went with pictures not showing ..... second try

OK, here are some more details on this puzzle, hoping someone can help me figure it out:
The Plastic lens has different dimensions compared to the glass one. it is narrower in width and thinner in thickenss at the lip of it's perimeter.
Here is the diameter comparison:
[img

And here the thickness comparison:
[img

Here is a pic of the PLASTIC lens with it's chrome ring. It fits nicely around it and will install with no problem in the light bucket:
[img

Here is a pic of the GLASS lens with the same chrome ring on it. The ring is obviously too small for it and when I tried to mount it in the housing, I broke two lenses :( :(

Can someone please clarify? Are there chrome rings that will fit right for the glass lenses? More so, where can I find a pair?
And Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year to everyone !!!!!!!!!!!

Tail light lenses and retaining rings was created by Aris Loumidis
More on the 810:
I've had plastic lenses on my tailights for many years. They came with matching retaining rings, and fitted properly in the taillight housings.
I now want to install a pair of original glass lenses that I have in stock, but the retaining rings from the plastic lenses just dont fit.
The OD of the glass lenses is wider and thicker compared to the plastic ones, so am I right to guess that they need their own, thinner retaining rings?

BTY, I'm almost done with my LED mod in the taillights, hope to post the results soon !
Again Happy Holidays to everyone !!!!
