Hi,

I took a few minutes to surf through the Jim Brockman photo collection, and I found three 810/812 Cords with hood ornaments. None of them was the one that's in the accessories catalog.

One ornament, shown in two photos, looked for all the world like a pregnant kangaroo. I'm not sure if that's better or worse than the official catalog item. In any event, if I live long enough to reassemble my 812, it won't have any hood ornament.

So, the question remains--does anyone have a photo of the catalog ornament installed on a Cord?

Cord used two types of hood ornaments one the Auburn flying man with a strip behind it running the length of the hood, the second one in the accy catalog that was a winged affair . The yellow Cord is not an original ornament but maybe an original hood strip .Randy

Tom, your welcome . <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=":wink:" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: -->
Is the flying Lady you refer to, the same Ornament as for Auburns ?
You might not like it , but " flying lady " for me denotes always Rolls Royce' " Emily ".
Anyway i would like to see a pic of the correct CORD ornament on or off a CORD.
Best regards Philipp

Hi Philipp,

It's been a long time (25 years or more) since I looked in the accessories book, and I [i:2050xinw]thought [/i:2050xinw]that the ornament was as you said--and I love your description. But when I saw this photo I shrugged and figured that the drawing in the book was pretty vague, and maybe it was a flying lady after all.

Thank you for restoring my faith in my memory!

Does anyone have a photo of the carrot-and-surfboard ornament ON a Cord?

Tom, the hood ornament on the Sinsheim Museum Cord seems to me, as to be a Auburn Ornament. The Cord Ornament looked much more like a carrot with a surfboard on top, i believe .
the center strip looks correct. A side of that, i think the Sinsheim Museum Cord, is not best reference to original Cord and i guess you will spot more doggy things. How manny can you find ?

Hi,

As I recall from the catalog, this thing was a "wind splitter" that, as you said, ran down the length of the hood and culminated in an ornament. The ornament was a "stylized" something. I have never seen one, but I found a photo of a Cord that has one. When Comcast decides to allow me to get to Photobucket, I'll post the picture.

Comcast came through, finally. Here it is:

I know of no one who finds it attractive.

Glenn Pray had one in a bin at the factory. Same as pictured in the accessories catalog. I toyed with the idea of mounting it and putting it in the trophy shelf. Couldn't imagine it actually on a car.
