Hi,

I attended the auction in Aalholm, Denmark on 12th of August.

The outer appearance of the Cord 812 SC Beverly (#320518) wasn't too bad. I liked the red colour which was ok and besides some scratches, chrome with a lot of patina (which I like) and a few missing parts it looked OK. The body was in sound condition. No problem so far.
But the cars interior was a shock. The main museum building had a leaky roof at least since 2010 and now I saw the result. The back seats and the rear roof lining was white, covered with mold. The door lining was partly eaten by mice and I saw another prospective buyer poking a 8 inch hole into the cars floor at the front passengers foot space with his pocket knife.

I bid on the car but was outbid. Though the car didn't have a Cord engine (Citroen 11CV FWD) and wasn't painted in it's original colour (geneva blue) and besides the named condition it fetched a price of 26,200 US-$ (including tax and bidders premium)

OK, there must be another unrestored Cord waiting for me somewhere else in the world

If anyone should be interested in photos of the car please send me a note and I will be happy to send some. Same with the Auburn 4-44 in the same auction.

Kay

Hi,
I'm from Northern Germany and fascinated by Cord automobiles, especially the 810/812.

The Cord you talk about is not from the collection of the Schlumpf widow. Both Schlumpf 812 have been sold in 2008 and haven't popped up again as far as I know.

This car is from a museum to be auctioned in Denmark. I probably will attend the auction as it's not for from my hometown. The Cord is in poor condition as the photos show. Nevertheless the sale price could be quite high, because buyers premium and Danish tax add up to 40% (!) of the winning bid.

Regards
Kay

There were a number of Cords in Europe after World War II. Charles Dechaux of Paris converted some of them to Citroen engines and transmissions. There was an article about him and his cars in issue 2011?6 of the ACD Club Newsletter.

This Cord must be one that was bought by Citr?en, to see in what respect CORD was superior, as the constuction is similar. The body seems to be a former sc, as much i can tell from the pics, The engine is a 4 cylinder Citr?en wit Citr?en gearbox and driveshaft that was from " Citr?en Traction Avant legere " not Deuxchevaux ( CV2 ). The Trunk seems stock-Cord early bolt on , it has Citr?en style guidelights on the C-post, allthough they kept the front Cord spring and suspension and the rear axle. One can see the speedleaver under the dash central . It looks like the've got rid of the wipers above the 'screen. The hoodtrim looks rather like Chevy, but not Citr?en. Rims look stock other than the wheelcap. It's a shame how crude the job was done. This could be of the secret hidden collection of Schlump's Widow, that was sold mybe 2 year ago , or so.

Auburn started 1927 with the 8-88, 6-66 and 4-44. Later in production of 1927 the 4-44 was dropped. It appears that the auction car is a 4-44

The Cord is a Dechaux conversion to 4 cylinder Citroen engine and gearbox.

Auburn didn't build a four-cylinder model in 1927, did they? I'll leave it to the Auburn guys to discuss this one.

The Cord looks to be modified somewhat.

Listed as a 1937 812 Beverly. This auction looks to have a lot of [i:37r5q7ps]really[/i:37r5q7ps] interesting old cars, also including a 1927 Auburn 6-66 with what looks like a sort of California top.
