No, but they are both produced for the History Channel.

If and when the "picker" or "storage auction" shows uncover the Wright L29 Speedster, I might believe these shows are more than theatre.

You know, I can't say if these shows are staged or not, but on one episode of "American pickers", they bought a civil war belt buckle with a miniball ( 57 or 58 caliber bullet ) lodged in it which would have saved the soldiers life. On the very next show "Pawn Stars" a customer walked into the shop with the very same buckle want to sell it, saying he bought it in an antique shop. It was determined that it was fake because the clasp on the back wasn't correct for the era. I kind of wonder if there isn't a prop shop owned by the network that both of these shows draw material from.

This year at Auburn for the National Reunion, the "car of the year" is the Unrestored Car. Drive 'em, tow 'em, haul 'em, just [i:2ing7ivy]get them to Auburn![/i:2ing7ivy].

It's my experience that there are very, very, very few "cars in barns" that are total surprises when unearthed. The most recent Duesenberg "discoveries," for instance, were known to historians but quietly. "They're still out there," and people in-the-know tend to know where they are.

Prying them away from longtime owners is another matter altogether.

If the owner reads this thread: What better year to bring her to Auburn than THE YEAR OF THE UNRESTORED CAR?

So... What does the collective know about this Cord seeing that it has been talked about here before. I didn't see if it had a Lycombing engine or what interior was in it. Buried treasures like this fasinate me.

I'm with you. Oh I'll admit to watching this stuff on occasion, but as to "reality TV" in general....HELLO !? If the protagonists are followed around by a camera crew, it ain't reality. There, someone else can have the soapbox.

It is probably just me but I assume all of these shows are completely staged. When they are "picking" the $50 sign that is hidden behind some truly valuable artifact it is kind of a giveaway. They don't even ask about the valuable piece, at least on camera.

Mike & Frank from the show American Pickers found a Cord Sedan. Non supercharged and not a bustle trunk. So I'm thinking its a Weschester. Its so buried in a garage its tuff to see much of it. Can't say if its a 36 or 37 because not much is seen and I didn't see all of the episode either. Is this a new barn find or has it been known of for some time.. The lad that had it says his dad was going to restore it but has died and he now just can't sell the dream car of his father. anyone know anything more about this car. I'm not interested in buying it. Just the fact that it is there gives me a warm fuzzy feeling about these cars. I know my 37 had not been on the road since 1950 and it was out of site since 1960. But when I called Ron Irwin he knew all about the car. Someone had seen it and reported it to him... Funny how things work sometimes...
