1. The upper kingpin IS bottomed -- in the tapered roller bearing.
2. Screw the lower one in snugly. Then set the car back on its wheels. You'll find that the weight has caused the lower one to loosen a bit. Tighten it to 15 foot/pounds using the big screwdriver slot, then tighten the big lock nut. I use Loctite blue on the nut.
3. Stick to the factory limit of 1 7/8" on the stop screws. The limitation is not the u-joint angle. It's the steering linkage.

And another question.
I've fitted the Richardson conversion axles (great looking parts! Fit right up)
and am wondering about how to set the steering stops.
A little more turn in would be great.
Any opinions?
Thanks
Frank

Just tighten up the bolt on the top pin. The arm doesn't have to bottom. The adjustment is on the bottom pin. I run the bottom pin up tight and then back off about a 1/4 turn and then tighten the lock nut.

Hi, just finishing the front suspension and wondering how to do up the bottom and upper swivel pin bearings.
Top bearing pin "tab"does not bottom on arm, do I shim this?
How tight is tight for the bottom pin ?
Thanks
Frank
