An AL99 rotor must be used with the AL493 cap because the electrodes in the AL493 cap are in a smaller circle than the original Cord cap. The original Cord rotor is too large. The AL493 cap and AL99 rotor were also used on straight 8 Hudson engines 1948-1952.

I have a modern style black distributor cap on my Cord taxi. This was used on later 30's Packards. It is still produce by Standard auto parts as #AL493. It is available from many sources such as Rock Auto. It is makes connecting wires easier and more positive. The post on Facebook was me sharing my wife's Facebook account

This I do not know about being aftermarket for the Cord. Cathy Leahy mentioned the black conventional cap was an AL 493 from a mid 30s Packard.

I might not be correct in my assumption but I always thought the black standard distributor caps were after market for Cord, Packard, etc.

Yesterday I was asked what engine or car did the black standard distributor cap come on? I have seen a few cars with them but have never known what car it originally came on. Anyone know?
