As Tim says the end of the pipe should extend to the plane of the bumper. A few years back when I was installing my exhaust , the research I did at the time said also that the end of the exhaust pipe should have about a 45 degree angle with the short side down toward the pavement. This tends to draw the exhaust down away from the bumper. Numerous old, possibly original exhaust pipes that I have seen have this configuration. At the moment I can't put my hands on something more solid to document this characteristic specifically for a Cord , though it is an accepted one in general for exhaust systems.
Just from a fluid flow basis , you don't want a slight bell on the end of the pipe. like you have. This geometry tends to spread the exhaust flow as it comes out the end of the pipe.

1. For originality, should the end of the exhaust pipe be chromed or plain steel metal?
2. How far should the exhaust pipe extend in relation to the bumper above it? Should it end before, at, or further out from the bumper above it? The reason I am asking is that my current pipe ends before the bumper and the result is that the bumper gets covered with soot and residue, which eats the chrome and rusts it.[attachm
