Thanks again Pat. Now I feel better being able to say these are real Cord dash clocks.

They are just the way you show them. Electrical terminal is not covered.

Thanks Pat. Your information really clears up my questions. Did both type clocks have a cover for the electrical or not?

Like many items with the Cords, there are early and late types. The faces are a little different as well as the cases. Cord couldn't pay suppliers in 1937 because they didn't have money, so the vendors quit shipping items. Auburn just found new vendors to keep going and most of these didn't get paid. The glass lenses would Interchange on either bodies. I have both styles in my Cords.

I would say someone replaced the rear housing and guts with a circa 1940 Buick clock.

The 35-36 Auburn also has a Borg Clock, but it is larger. Are you sure the clock is supposed to have a cover you refer to? Auburn clocks don't. If your clock with the contact points that arc to wind the clock doesn't work, it can often be "fixed" by polishing the contact points. You can also put a capacitor in place to lessen the arc, thus it runs longer before needing to be polished.

You also can just take out the clock fuse to disable.

Thanks mate. I didn't know how they actually worked but figured the clock would eventually run a battery down if parked for an extended period.
I believe a simple spring clip connected power to the clock that could easily be disconnected by reaching under the dash. Rick Hulett had an article in an old newsletter showing the spring clip.

Here are the pictures Terry. I had planned to post yesterday but got busy. Hope this tells me whats going on. I need a electrical cover for the top clock. The one mounted in the dash is my original. The other is a spare.Big plus to all this is they both work wekk when hotted up. Power to a points breaker opens when it reaches full power causing the clock spring to "wind up". When the spring runs down it closes the point gap charging it up.Then opens cutting power to the clock but the spring begins the wind down. Repeat. Rather simple in design and electrical economy...

Dash Clock was created by 1748 S
I have two apparently different clocks. The faces are the same as is the manufacture. But the cover on the back protecting the electrical won't swap to the other. Have I "found" something unknown before? As with most Cord parts..There were some differences...... But the car is the same... But different....
