One of Jim's earlier posts in this thread said that there is no fan. With no air moving it seems it might have been terrible in traffic.

with all that extra tubing, water capacity must have increased. also, the holes thru the firewall allowed more air flow across the engine. so the real question is....did this cord run cool in traffic?

I agree this car sure has an interesting story especially the fitting of the Studebaker water pump when Dallasw Windslow was still in operation in Auburn.
My own Westchester which I call the Actonite Cord had the cowl flip up lid sealed up a very long time ago with the original caps hidden away for posterity. What a surprise it was to see the original caps still in place when the lead was melted out.
They still had patches of the original paint.

What a story, an 810 with cowl fillers found. Many cars in worse condition have been renewed. Maybe more interesting in this condition, Remember the Bugatti in the bottom of the lake and the show Cord coupe found in the Indiana levee. Really, beauty in the eye of the beholder. It is so interesting these obscure relics keep getting rescued from obscurity. To think it was driven for ten years in this condition. What a positive story. Traffic, stop signs, ideas of comfort were much different in the fifties. It even has the bumpers around somewhere, Not only a true Barn find but a very early job with no modern fixes, keep finding these treasures.

Gary,
When the car was dug out of an old shop a year and a half ago by the present owner, I was able to inspect it. I forgot to send the info to Ron at that time, that is why it is not in his records. I have sent him all the info so his records will be updated. Yes it is a barn find as it has been sitting since about 1960.

That's a Stude v/8 water pump. Had to have been put on after 1951.

No Idea why the modifications were done. I can only guess the water pump failed and the owner couldn't get parts to repair it. Supposedly the car was driven regularly for 10 years like this.

It's amazing what what done years ago to keep these cars on the road!

Thank you Jim for all this great historical information. Did you ask why the water flow modifications were done like this? As for actually driving this car, I think that would have been nearly impossible because of the heat and wind thru the open firewall. As for driving in the rain...Nope.... Still an intriguing car....

I inspected this car a few years ago when it was first found. The water flow on this car is really unique. Yes the water pump is mounted in the timing chain area. If I remember right the water pump sends teh water into the back of the water distribution tubes in the engine (instead of the front). The water flows into the block and up thru the thermostat housing and into the intake manifold. The water then flows out the back of the manifold , around the engine and into the upper left of the radiator. Out of the bottom of the radiator (I think on the lower right side) and back to the water pump. Yes I know that is VERY different and it took me a good 15 to 20 mins to figure it out.

Supposedly the modifications were done around 1950 and the owner drove the car like this for about 10 years. Note there is no fan to pull the ari thru the radiator. The generator is mounted above the steering column. Most of the firewall has been cut out during the changes to it must have been very windy in the passenger compartmant. Also you better be careful where you place your feet or they will either get burned from the water hoses or pipes or caught in the belts.

Over all the car is pretty solid, except under the trunk area. It is fairly complete considering the amount of modifications

I plan on doing a Newsletter artilce on this car when I get a chance, I have to dig out my notes.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configuration

This is my observation. I'm intrigued as to how the new water pump was set up on the back... Which is actually the front of the block. Getting eyes on this car and documenting it would be great. Sadly I wont be the one flying from California to see this car.
