Thank you George for the information and the photos.  It really helps get this back together.

I have a 1933 Auburn GC engine I recently disassembled for rebuilding. They do not have a rear seal, just a slinger.
I will try to add a couple pictures. They do have a packed rope seal on either side of the main cap. George

All,

I am working on a 8-95 Kissel (GS Lycoming) engine that is very similar to the Auburn engines.  My rebuilder called me and asked if there was a rear main oil seal on this engine?  Unfortunately I did not take it apart (neither did he) and I cannot find any pictures or documentation on it for this engine.  He asked if it was just a slinger design that drains back to the pan.  Does anyone have any experience/pictures that could help me understand how the back of the motor is/is not sealed up?  Any help/photos/drawings would be appreciated.

John
