Wow Emporator, that was being observant! I checked and you are correct, one of the few color pictures in Joshs book, of course this was a black and white era of photography. One of these Cords in 1966 pictured below may be Maroon in color.

I just checked my own copy of this brilliant book - the Convertible Coupe's colour is listed as Clay Rust. For a picture of a Cord sporting a Rich Maroon paint scheme, skip forward to page 160.
