Looks like none of you saw this video on Youtube. I found the video first, then found this forum post while trying to find out more about it. Jay Leno took it for a spin. Not the window they installed in the cam cover.

Packard chassis are pretty durable. It might work. On the Packenberg, the grille was pushed forward. I don't think there's enough room on the Light Eight Packard to merely push the grille forward.

My info was wrong then. (And no...I didn't get it from an auction catalog.)

Now you've got me wondering what a J engine in a Light Eight would do...hehe.

:P The Duesenberg engine IS a straight-eight Lycoming. :P

I know what you meant, though.

Somewhere I've got an old NL article on ACD-engined hot rods. It will take some digging to find it though.

From what I've read, the Club traditionally dislikes hot rod versions of its cars. Ordinarily I'm A-OK with that, but in this case I think the car should have been let in.

I think Bill meant the Packenberg, which is a 900 Light Eight with a Duesenberg engine installed and modifications made to accept it.

The Clemans car was a stock J chassis (J-396 / 2410) which originally had a Derham Sedan body for a short time. The Packard roadster body was installed by the New York factory branch and was brand-new when it was put on.

Both cars exist. The Packenburg is in WA State, last I heard, and Harry Yeaggy has J-396 / 2410 (now with engine J-434).

Yes the car was at Auburn at the 50th anv show. There was much to do and the car was not allowed in the park. It stayed at the top of the hill and did not participate in the show.
Bill
Are you referring the Packard bodied car that Melvin Clemens owned?

I first saw that car at a car show in Indianapolis in 1964. I've seen it a few places.

A More interesting car was a Duesenberg engine in an early thirties Packard light eight. The Duesenberg engine was not stock. He used to heap humiliation on the local hot rodders.

Anyone remember if that is where they hosted the "HOTROD" show?

Most likely I have pictures of it then........ or at least negatives of it still. Kept my negatives, gave my photos away. :(

It was parked on the 3rd floor near the freight elevator, in about the same spot that, I think, R.O. Barclay's Auburn coupe was/is?

I did not get a photo.

If by Auburn you mean the city, then yes. It was in the ACD Museum for a few years (I saw it during my first visit) and was owned by the Kruse brothers for a while in the late 1970s.

No clue if it's actually been in the festival or the parade. I would love to know who owns it now as well.

Has the Duesenford ever made it to Auburn? I am sure we could find somewhere in the parade for it. And where is it now?

Very cool.

I sent you a PM on Bob Hickman, btw.

I don't have the Geo anymore <!-- s:cry: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cry.gif" alt=":cry:" title="Crying or Very sad" /><!-- s:cry: -->

And the Galaxie only runs when it wants to. Say if I drive it someplace and turn it off...... it'll stay there overnight before it wants to start again and while you are tinkering with it under the hood it rains cats and dogs, OR I could have it towed to the Dealership only to have it start right up so they can't figure out whats wrong with it.

Yeah... it's fun owning old cars.

maybe I'll photoshop the 2 together to see what it looks like.

Nah, for a hot rod you need to start with something really despicable, next to useless as is, with a stock engine that produces less torque that a gerbil running on a wheel...

...the Geo perhaps?

Honestly, if Geronimo had been built any time other than the 1940s, there would be an outcry over using a Duesenberg engine like that. I think it's cool. Must be a blast to tear through downtown Auburn in.

"Geronimo." Engine J-322, built by Hal Ulrich, one of D. Cameron Peck's mechanics, back in the 1940s.
