Is that a 59 Ford truck in the background?

The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

Yard south of Los Angeles around 1958. These cars look like they were driven onto the lot. Probably could have had the boat tail for $750. That's when a tank of gas was $3.

Terry your car will be turning the wheels soon. My Cord has only "turned the wheels" on its own power once in the last 72 years. My wife n I drove it around our block. Then it came apart for restoration....

Gary at least we both have a survivor. I'm looking forward to the day when the wheels start turning again.
Cheers mate,

I have seen the second picture somewhere before. The Studebaker sign stands out in my memory. I was reading about a wrecking yard in Utah where several Cord cars were. The owner was going thru a horrible divorce And... The city was making hime remove the cars. Seemed the wrecking yard was way out of the town. But urban sprawl saw surrounding this yard. So the city said it has to go. I had a name so I called several wrecking yards in the area asking about the yard I wanted. Was finally told the story I told here. Nobody could connect me with the name or any information. Then about a year later Cord cars n parts came up on ebay and I "connected" with the elusive owner..... Sadly he never wanted to talk about selling anything by piece. Only sell everything as one huge purchase. I only wanted a few small parts and had no-place for everything even if the seller was going to give it to me free.
I really enjoy walking thru any wrecking yard new or old.

Junk Yards was created by Terry Cockerell
Unfortunately a heck of a lot of old cars ended us as scrap metal, in junk yards and even on river banks. Some of the Hand Built Cord bodies ended up as land fill beside the White Water River in Connersville. The first picture shows an incredible number of bodies dumped in an unknown location in America. The second picture shows what appears to be a 1931 Auburn in the lower RH corner. I wonder if it was parted out and some of the bits are still in use today?
Looking at Google Images of Old Junk Yards brings tears to the eyes.
