Category 1 was an original car.
Category 2 was a rebodied car - i.e. new coachwork using materials of the era.
Category 3 was a chassis.

The cars were being misrepresented by saying they were certified but not saying which category. To prevent this the Club did away with Cat. 2 and 3. As far as I know all but one of the Cat 2 and Cat. 3 certifications have expired.

Along the same lines the cars used to be "Certified Original Auburn" however since the word "original" took on a different context in the old car world we no longer use the word original. Now its just a "Certified Auburn"

Now that is a "can of worms" of the highest order. Check with Jim O'Brien who serves as the ACD Club Certification Supervisor.

What was the difference on the old originality certifications between Cat 1 2 and 3?
