I have a lot of sentimental attachment to J-391, but that doesn't change the fact it's a three-decade-old cosmetic restoration in colors that haven't aged well, and it's spent much of the last decade sitting. IMHO the money should've been taken and run with.
J-391 was one of, I believe, four cars with this styling. The Law car is a slightly different design.

The rear trunk treatment on J-391 to me is stylish and sets the car apart, but of course that's a matter of personal taste.
I've always admired the looks of Richard Law's Murphy Berline (2374) a car I've seen on many occasions.
While on the subject of Murphy Berlines, I'm wondering how many were built?

J425 sold for 690k unrestored a few years back and that was a better looking car and originally supercharged.

J-391 no sale at high bid of $1.4 million.
J-255 no sale at high bid of $1.1 million.
Hello,
thank you for the information.
Isn't it a kind of "funny"?! Mecum plublished (in their online-announcement) for J-255 an estimate of $1.0-1.5 million and then they won't sale it at a $1.1 million bid? <!-- s:shock: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_eek.gif" alt=":shock:" title="Shocked" /><!-- s:shock: -->
Here is one more result. Gooding published a salesprice of $2.09 million for J-129 LeBaron DCP
Cheers

But it's a Murphy Berline, not a convertible sedan. The Berline has the swept cowl and more raked windshield along with lower production numbers. Add to that the Tyrone Power history, and from what I can tell it has all its original components.
Maybe it would have done better at RM Scottsdale or Monterrey.
Just sayin'

Colors are not great. 1.4 is a premium on a standard Murphy Conv sedan. Not sure that it is worth more than that.

Gooding Arizona has J-129
RM Arizona has J-357
Barrett Jackson has J-292
Mecum (Kissimmee) has J-391
Apologies in advance for not including the chassis numbers on these, I'm just too lazy today to look them up!
