I believe the price was 3 point something. It was high enough for me to gasp a bit. Also, the car has sold.

Thanks Pete, didn't realize there was more than one picture. That sure is a small air cleaner for 420 cu. inches. K&N would not approve. That's about the size they recommend for 298 Cu. In.

J-330 is one of those really special cars that has always been well taken care of - I first realized this when I opened the tool bag door and found the most spectacular and amazingly complete set of tools. And, very very few reproduction parts on the car. While in Estate practice, I tinkered on the car for a few days and arranged for it to get new top canvas. This was also the first Duesenberg to sell for over $100,000 - very early 1970's I believe - when all others were 2/3rds the price (at best).

I strongly considered buying J147, but ended up passing on it. Back then it was black and in need of restoration. Now it is silver and apparently has been fully restored. A very handsome car in my humble opinion.

This was the first "J" I ever had contact with along with J467 both on the same day in June of 1951.I wonder how many times it sold since then.
Raydon R."Don"Thompson owned it when I first saw it and it was being
revived, not restored. We drove it as a king size hot rod with no body on
the frame like Leno does now. That LeBaron body didn't add much weight to the car and it was fast even after we reinstalled it. Don sold it to a man in Maryland and I think his name was Blash. It was also the first one I used a wrench on when I installed the intake manifold. Sixty four years have gone by since that warm summer day and the random encounter with one of the premier cars of the world. A long and interesting run.

Many of these cars are like George Washington's hatchet. The blade and handle have been replaced at least four times. Also there are better ways to spend $750,000 than on a car that can't be enjoyed the way it should be.

I watched the car come up on the auction block. there just was not enough interest. I have always felt that some cars should not be sold at BJ. I also inquired into a post auction sale price. if anyone would like that number send me a PM.

The car itself was fairly nice. not to many issues that i could see. Granted that being a rebody hurts its value. it does have a interesting story on he factory switching bodies and being a factory demo car.

Hello Bob,

the car @Gooding auction is (as Randy posted) J-173, looks like that car is a (almost unrestored?) survivor.

The ex T. Powers car @Mecum is J-391

That car looked in the past different to today, in the time of T. Powers ownership it has a darker paint and no roof-top folded "on deck".

I saw a black and white picture of that car only with a kind of persenning that covered a "gap" (rooftop compartment?) between the rear seats and the trunk. In that days the car maybe has had a hidden roof-top folded in a compartment or there was no roof-top installed... I don't know.

EDIT: It has had a persenning, instead a folded roof-top, as you can see on the fabulous Duesenberg-Site of Jack Curtright

IS that car J391? I saw it in the ACD Museum sitting in the back and some one had tried to jack it up by placing the jack under the running board.
This one looks different to me,maybe the trunk.

Hello,

I looks like there are very few Model J's offered at the Monterey auction circus in August.

one 1929 Murphy Conv. Sedan @Gooding www.goodingco.com/vehicle/1929-d ... e-sedan-2/

and Mecum starts a new attempt to sell the Powers Duesey

Thats it so far...

Thanks Steve, I remember it being in the ACD museum around 80-81 when I was working there. (sorry, not a fan of European coachwork <!-- s:? --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_confused.gif" alt=":?" title="Confused" /><!-- s:? --> ) Others were ga-ga about it, and it was a nice car, but not me.

Thanks for checking Chris. Guess I'll have to go back through my disorganized boxes. I know I had a photo of the car at one time.

Steve, I checked my files, and I have several shots of Duesenbergs you took at Harrah's, but not of that car. Sorry.

Hello,

in my opinion that car has one of the "better" looking european bodies (there are not many that I like). But I love the "original" Duesenberg-Style-Grille and I think that car would even look better with a Duesey-Grille.

Here are some pictures of that car: www.duesey2208.com/Datasheets/Mo ... rm2254.htm

Hello,

artcurial marked that car as unsold. Does anybody know the highest bid on that car?
