17 inch wheels.

Skirted fenders hide the size of the wheels pretty wheel. On open-fendered cars it's much more noticeable.

On pg. 177 of Adler's "Duesenberg" is an old photo of J-504/2524 fitted with 17-inch wheels that shows what I'm talking about fairly well.

Thanks for the reply Chris. Why are they more popular now? I would think the 19's would be more popular!

I have looked through many photos and haven't noticed any that seem too small although most of the replicas seem to use wheels that are too small and they just don't look right.

A lot more have them now than did originally. They were used on the ten JNs from the factory, as well as a few other cars (don't know exact numbers), and as the larger (18-inch? I think?) wheels became unavailable in the 1940s and 1950s, more and more cars were retrofitted with them.

Cars with 17-inchers that weren't supposed to have them originally are easy to spot. Look for cars where the wheels appear too small for the fenders.

Does anyone know how many cars have the 17 " wheels and where I can find some pictures of them?
