June 9: On this date in 1922 William C. Durant purchased the Duesenberg factory in Elizabeth, NJ to produce the Flint automobile, outbidding Walter P. Chrysler who was seeking a location to develop and manufacture the first Chrysler. (I lived in Elizabeth in the early 1960s, and used to walk past that plant every day on my way to work, without knowing what it was!)
