Today was a split group day. Our group went to Mesa Verde. We left at about 8 AM, covering a total of about 114 miles for the round trip. There was road work going on so we had to wait until the flagman released us. The picture of the vette behind us was taken while we were waiting in line. There is a long, steep, curvy drive back to the museum and to the ruin sites. Mike and Tom went on a guided tour of the cliff dwelling ruins, while Kay and I elected to stay back at the Museum. The tours are quite strenuous, lots of steep inclines and ladders. We had a gorgeous drive back to the museum and there was a short walk to viewing areas of couple of the sites. A delicious sack lunch was provided. After lunch we did a driving tour of one of the loops. Then we returned to the hotel, stopping for ice cream on the return trip. We went to our favorite restaurant a short distance from our hotel. We donated a little more money to the casino upon our return.

Today was (sort of) a free day. There was car judging in the morning. Mike was a judge. I did laundry and sat and talked with the ladies in the hospitality room. We played some cards and just had a leisurely day. Mike and a group of the guys toured the round house and machine shop where they care for the narrow gauge steam train. At 6 we all left for the Bar D ranch where they hosted a western motif dinner and show. I did not take pictures today.

A couple of our friends made a last minute (6 hour one way trip) to Denver to look at a car. When they got there, they decided it was more of a project than they wanted to undertake and left empty handed.

Today we drove to Telluride covering 262 miles. We rode a gondola to the historic mining town. it was beautiful. We are on overload ... It is so scenic that it's all gorgeous. I need to get ready for tomorrow which will be another exhausting day. We will be riding the narrow gauge stream train to Silverton. I don't have time to post pictures tonight but will tomorrow.

Hello Joan and Mike,

once again thank you for sharing! Some of your photos bring my Southwest-US-Travelling-Memories back to life.

Here is a link to a "Road-Song", which is (in my honest opinion) appropriate for the area you are travel.

Today we took the train from Durango to Silverton. Tonight is our banquet. It’s been a busy day. Fabulous country. It’s hard to choose just a few of the pictures. We are having a great time. Hard to believe tonight is the last night of the tour. We are thinking of taking a new route home.
