I noticed in your posts about driving your Cord and your Auburn across the USA that you use a GPS. How do you power it in your 6 volt cars?

Thanks, Joel

I have a 12V 5amp. battery in a wooden box. I have a lighter receptical in the box that I plug the Garmin into and also have fashioned a charger with a male plug to go into the lighter receptical to charge the battery. Take it into the hotel room every night and charge. Have never ran out of power. Can also move it from car to car.
CORDially Mike

If you're not as handy as Mike you can also buy one of these:

http://www.sears.com/diehard-platinum-p ... 871988000P

They are often on sale for less money. Has a couple of 12V cig lighters, a couple of 120V outlets and even a USB outlet. Also has a light and air compressor. I've had one for about 5 years and have never run it out of juice. Will start a car at least a couple dozen times before running low. It is significantly lighter than a standard car battery so it's easy to carry.

You can recharge at the hotel as Mike suggests or even from a cig lighter of a 12V car if you're on the move and someone will loan you theirs for a while. I take mine on every road trip whether in 12V or 6V cars.

I have something similar to what Mike uses, been running it about 4 or 5 years now. Bought it online with a charger from a sporting goods place (Cabelas I think), boaters use them to power fish finders. Don't remember what it cost, but remember it was negligible. In my experience, you don't need to charge it very often. On the other hand I don't rack up the miles the way Mike & Joan do.

Like I said, negligible. Built it into a box with a cigarette lighter plug.
