Today, we drove NW about 25 miles to the town of Jim Thorpe. This town was an old coal mining area. We went on a 15 mile train ride then walked up the street through the Molly Maguires pub to our lunch buffet. After lunch we had several options open to us. A group of us decided to visit the Asa Packer Mansion, a beautiful house overlooking the town. It was constructed in the 1860?s. What is unique to this house is that the house was closed up for many years, and it exists essentially as the Packers lived in it. The home and the furnishings are original, not a restoration.

After our tour, we drove toward the hotel. We had not gone far and it started to rain, at first a light shower but it got progressively harder. We finally pulled over and put the top up. By then it was a downpour. The windows were so fogged up we could hardly see out of them. It got so bad, we pulled over again. Hail about the size of peas came down.
We were somewhat sheltered by a tree, and waited until the rain let up some. Then we continued back to the hotel, wiping the steam off the front window as we drove. We made it back around 4PM, but it?s always scary driving in a downpour.

At 5:45 the bus left for the baseball game. The weather had cleared and the game was on.
We had a reserved area over by the 3rd base line. Dinner was a buffet, and we had tables to eat at and watch the game. The opening pitch was thrown by Tim Gilmartin, Pres. There was a bus taking anyone who didn?t want to stay back to the hotel at the end of the 5th inning. That was just about right, because we could see lightning in a distance and the sky looked threatening.

Today was judging day at the Eastern meet. Mike was head judge with Kathy Kellum and Al Hatch assisting him. They had two cars to judge, both emeritus.

While the judging and car show was taking place, Pat Hatch and I went to the Moravian District of downtown Bethlehem. There were cute little shops, and a bookstore with all kinds of other stuff in it. We had lunch in a little sidewalk caf? that felt just like Europe.
Afterwards we walked down to the Moravian Museum and learned some of the local History. We drove back to the hotel and visited with friends until it was time for the closing banquet.

Happy hour was sponsored by Jim Cox in memory of Beverly Rae Kimes. He had photos of Beverly for those that wanted them. The dress was western attire. Dinner was a buffet. Mike won the long distance award, and Harry Golden won the much sought after hard luck award.

We ate breakfast with the ACD group, said our goodbyes and packed up the car for the return trip home. Throughout the morning, we stayed on the less traveled roads, angling northwest toward 80. At noon, we ate lunch at McDonalds in Danville; then we got on 80 and drove to Clarion, PA, where we will be spending the night. Pennsylvania is full of tree topped mountains and rolling hills. The azaleas and the rhododendrons are in full bloom, as well as many blossoming trees. Irises, peonies, phlox and roses are flowering. It is a very pretty time to be traveling.

We drove on the interstate much of the day today. Even when we changed to the less traveled highway, we were just trying to get to Warsaw, IN before nightfall. The morning started with rain. While we were packing, eating breakfast and most of the morning, it rained. While it was overcast most of the day, it did not rain until about 5:30 PM. It quit raining as we approached Warsaw. We ate supper first then checked in to the hotel. In the morning, we will visit Mike?s mom, then we will continue home to MI. Since we are retracing our route, we arereally looking forward to home.

after 49 days on the road, I imagine home is sounding pretty good!

How many days will you be home before heading out again?

For those of you who have been following Mike and Joan. At the Eastern Spring Meet the Huffmans looked fresh and ready to go another 7500 miles or so. The L29 looked great and ready to do the same. Amazing trip!, Amazing car!, and most of all, Amazing Couple! Kudos to all three of you.
