It looks to me more and more like the butterflies only get squashed on the upper half of the core; This could be caused by a massive back draft caused by a high speed aerodynamic anomaly; Pipes or no pipes. Maybe someone has access to pressure instruments?

You're right. There were NO butterflies on the lower half of the core on any of the cars! This rare real-world wind tunnel test seems to show that there is little/no airflow through half the core, and that in turn means that the Cord is trying to keep cool with half a radiator! (Not doing a bad job, under the circumstances.)

Some of us have maintained for years that the Cord's cooling problems were more related to airflow than to water flow. This lends weight to that argument.

All of us on the trip believe that the shape of the louvers is much of the problem. They cant upwards from front to rear, and have a stiffening flange at the rear that points up too. The result appears to be that all the incoming air is thrown upward. Experimentation with baffles would seem to be the next step. (And where do we find another convenient swarm of suicidal butterflies?)

OK. I'll install my louvers upside down and post pics next summer when there's a good swarm of Monarchs, bet nobody's tried that yet. Flip them back for judging, and flip 'em back again for the trip home.
