I pulled up in front of the small town post office in the Cord. I could see a younger man, in his late 20's or so, standing on the front steps of the post office talking very briefly with an elderly lady who looked to be around 80 years old or so. She continued on into the post office while the younger man stood and stared at the Cord. I walked up the steps and the two of us went into the post office.

He asked me, "Is that a Cord?"

I replied, "Why, yes. I'm surprised, most younger people don't know what kind of car it is."

The elderly lady was standing in line at the counter about 20 feet away, overhearing our conversation and stated, "I told him what kind of car it is. He didn't believe me".

**************************************

This happens all of the time. Someone will ask, "What kind of car is that?"

I reply, "It's a Cord"

With a slightly puzzled look, he will say, "A Ford?"

Trying to speak a little more clearly, I say, "No, a Cord".

The puzzled look on the other person's face is even more puzzled looking. I can tell he is thinking that this is the oddest looking Honda he has ever seen.

I then have to spell, "C O R D, Cord".

"Oh, I've never heard of that, who made those?"

"The Cord Corporation". He looks puzzled. "The Auburn Automobile Company". Still looks puzzled. "They also made Duesenbergs".

"Oh, OK."

Good post. That is exactly why it is so important to keep promoting the cars and telling the stories. Our goal was to promote the Club, the cars, the museum and the festival during our Texas Meet. We tried to bring the Auburn experience to Dallas.

That's also why I don't mind replicas or Glenn's 2nd Generation cars. These automobiles are so rare that the general public does not know what they are. I love to watch a person's face when they see a Cord for the first time.

No one builds a replica of an ordinary car!

One of ACD Club member Mike Willmans Children actually had a School Teacher try to correct them when they talked about the famillys CORD. She tried to tell the child that it's a FORD, not a CORD. Obviously, she had no idea of what a CORD was.

I get that same thing with my Jordan car "Whats a Jordan???" "Who made them? Where are they made??" "Jordan, I never herd of that!!" " They probably did not make many" The reply to that one is "Yes they did it was a very well selling car". It is fun having something other than a Ford, Chevy or Mopar is it not?? don't get me wrong, I do have a Plymouth form the 1950's and just love it. But when it comes to the Jordan it is lots of fun just telling people about it. And what it is.

Maybe you should just tell them that Jordan made a car called the Playboy, and it predated Hugh Hefner's Playboy by a good 40 years.
