I thought the old vintage type Cords used two universal joints back to back as the CV joint had not been invented until the Super Modern 810 Cord came along.

Not readily available. I have the original joints remachined. Not inexpensive!Thats why I bought the old camper with the L-29 chassis so I would have joints ready to go when I need them. I think Ken Clark may have made some reproduction parts.

Are replacement parts for the CV joints readily available?

Just to explain in a bit more detail the 660 mile trip was just in one direction. We ended up covering about 1,600 miles in the week long event.
The best I have done is 500 miles in a day heading from north of Sydney towards Melbourne. The Actonite Cord went like a dream. I only stopped to visit friends.

I did many shorter trips with my 810 Westchester. I miss that car and driving a reliable Cord. My phaeton is presently under restoration with the goal of putting many, many miles on it. Hopefully in about 3 or 4 years I'll be doing a cross country trip in it. Anybody want to tag along?? Let me know and start planning now!

Hi Mike, I do remember reading about your fantastic trip. I am looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the Actonite Cord again but I have no desire to drive across Australia especially on our roads. I would love to do a coast to coast across America but I guess that will never happen. The longest trip we did before starting the complete restoration was 660 miles and it did it so easily with preparation. Maybe we will catch up again in Auburn in the future? In the mean time just keep feeding your wonderful cars.
Cheers,
Terry, Gai and Zoey.

L-29 Cord Trip was created by mikespeed35
Ten years ago today Joan and I were meeting with Josh Malks in CA. to get the spokes fixed on our L-29 . We were in the middle of our 8,600 mile trip. What a fun trip that was. Anyone contemplating a long trip with a ACD car," DO IT"
