Spark plug color confusion; mine was created by wcoye
So I'm cruising the forum last looking for judging standings....and come across a judging standards post from April of 2003 that sates that spark plug wires are maroon, oak or black. Then I find a posting from 2018 by Mark Tomei that states spark plug wires are maroon or black. What happened to oak? My wires are "oak" and are in beautiful shape. I'm not above taking a Magic Marker to them but they are awful pretty the way they are.
Thanx, Bill

I have a couple maroon spark plug/ignition wires from original/unrestored Auburn 852 cars - my assumption was the wire went bad and the car was serviced at an Auburn-Cord Dealership verses a filling station or other repair facility. Unfortunately the maroon has never been reproduced - which is a shame as I assume it was done to match the distributor caps.

My 37 beverly came with original spark plug wires but... I could never determine if they were black or maroon. I think they were maroon because I removed one wire when I sold them on ebay years ago with the metal distribution tubes.

Now am wishing I had kept them...

So I'll restate my original question, folks; considering what I found in the forum are my oak wires kosher?

My non official guess is yes they are ok.. But ok for what is going to take more than my opinion. Sadly this web site has very few watchers because many long time club members do not have computers or access to this forum. If you have a directory why not look up some judges and email them this question. Or call directly. Also a picture can really help show what you have. I recall black or maroon was the ONLY factory colors and maroon was not very common. Some say it never was a color. I'm still on the fence bout these two mentioned colors.

Oak wires have not been accepted in judging at Auburn for several years
