I made our washers from 8620 and case harden Rc 58-62. Keep in mind to leave .007 to.010 stock on thickness and bore for grinding after heat treat, they will warp. I made the 2nd gear thrust washer from 660 bronze.

After much more reading and re reading the Ayers manual from the club I found the washer material suggestion to be 8620. It also noted the washers needed to be heat treated too but I have not found to what hardness yet.

In our trans are washers on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears. Can someone tell me what material these are made from? My plan is to machine them myself on my lathe. I plan to purchase the heavy washer that is slid over the third gear sleeve. Thats the washer that has ruined many a trans in the past. Mine was modified to a thickness of .300 up from .250. It was not the 3/8 inch size. My sleeve was also modified to fit. Thanks for any help too.
