Today I finished the trans main vacuum cylinder restoration. I'm a slow learner. I ruined 3 shaft seals.. Reason is I listened to Stan but.. Felt I might know better. I'm not sure the outside shaft seals are an exact fit. The first two went in hard even though I "cleaned off the rolled over lip that held in the steel seal keeper. So a week of waiting I then had 2 more seals. Stan told me both shaft seals on the outside are to be installed back to back and make sure the lip faces towards the vacuum.. Well I tried to install themdifferently.. Mistake for sure. I finally got the third one nicely installed but when I tried to make the shaft go thru it the seal lip turned inside out rendering it useless. So I tried the final seal as Stan suggested.. Sure nuff it worked great. These are some finished pics. I used my original leather cups because they are in great shape. I did purchase new rubber seals for that just in case later on.
