Yes, I meant non-detergent oil.

Mike, I think Tim forgot to put the 'NON' in front of the detergent.

Unfortunately the pages above loaded out of order. If anyone would like the original Skinned Knuckles version , send me an email
[email protected] and I'll get it to you.
Cheers

Tim, how does detergent oil cause sludge to form, or did you misspeak.

I have been using 30W, non-detergent oil in my Cord 810 for over 15,000 miles now. I faithfully change the oil every thousand miles. Works fine, running a long time.
I agree with Curt. Detergent oil will cause sludge to form.

I would stongly recommend 30W NON-DETERGENT oil. With the original system of the Cord with-out an external oil filter,
you want any sludge to accumulate at the bottom of the oil pan. and not be circulated thru the engine with detergent oil additives.

Good question with many correct and not so correct answers.I believe most agree with a single grade oil and choose a 30 wt. As for running what brand or natural or synthetic is once again another good question. I recall our engines do not have crankshaft seals because the case runs under a very slight vacuum. That copper line running from the oil fill spout up under the air filter gets vacuum from the air being drawn in thru the carb. The camshaft does have seals on both ends of it similar to a crank main seal design.

I'm doing my first oil change on my cord 810 since I purchased it in 2015, (Haven't driven it much). Any recommendations on the best oil to use?
