Thanks Frank. I recognise what you are stating. I can reattach this but it will be plenty of trouble doing so.

Gary,
I would not want a copper pipe of any length to dangle unsupported . It might crack due to vibration.
Just my 2c. As Cord(presumably) took the trouble to secure the pipe, so would I.

In all the diesel or gas fuel tanks I have been inside of never have I seen the suction line fastened to anything in the tanks. If you know why please tell me because making a mistake is not my plan. Usually a suction line is close to the bottom of any tank and if you look at any modern gas or diesel suction level sender. they are not fastened to any part of the bottom of the tanks. The only reason I went thru removing this suction line is mine was plugged up. nothing was cleaning it out either. Even some 20 year old no longer available carb cleaner would soften or cut this.

So how are you planning to fasten the suction pipe?
It will need to be fastened to the bottom of the tank somehow.

This is what the gas tank suction line looks like in our tanks. No idea why it has to be fastened to the bottom of the tank by the copper rivet and the soldiered on copper tab but it was. It will NOT be replaced like that. No reason for it to be fastened to the bottom drain flange like this.
