Well with the great pics posted here I'm becoming better at recognising the correct generator for the 37 engines. This pic may seen small amd simple but it sure propels me along the way to finding what I want.

Thanks George. I sure will be looking for the oil cup on any generators I see on a bench or on a car.

Gary, One quick way to recognize the Cord generator is When the terminals are at the top , the oil cup will be on the top. ( eg On a Chrysler generator , the oil cup will be on the side. )

Thank you Pete for showing me exactly what I needed to see. I do not recall seeing an end cover like this on any Cords I have seen but might have and not recognised it.
Your generator mounting bracket is much different than mine but.. I am using an autolite generator from a Packard so maybe it was the same bracket found on those cars. Mine is a simple bent bracket that looks like a large square letter "U". My search continues. Sure happy to see a correct generator.

Thanks for the answer. I really need to see an actual generator as it left the factory. U may have seen several and taken pics of them but. Until I see one and am told this is correct.. I'm really just guessing. I know we use a generator that has the wires moved way over because it has the wrong end covers. I know the brush end cover is part gbw 63 and the correct pulley is sp263. So I have much of the information. Just not sure if I have seen a "real one" yet..

The ACD museum has very nice cars, though that is not where I would be necessarily looking as to how to authentically restore Auburns and Cords - you always need to be looking at the best of the best of un-restored cars.

Can someone please post a picture of the correct Autolite generator. The picture I need to see is the brush end plate. The part number for it is GBW 63.I have seen so many generators on many different cars and do not know exactly what is correct. Even the engines displayed at the ACD museum appear to have a differnt generator on them. thanks for helping me figure this out.
