Bill,

I noticed there was no drain pan also. I guess when they were building the bodies they felt the seal would prevent leakage. Maybe it also let more air in. Maybe it would have interfered with the cowl filler design? What about when the vent was open? Well at least there was a very effective screen.

Put yourself back to 1935 when they designed it. All the old buggies had leaks and the roads were dirt. They were just glad to get to there destination and hopefully the engine would crank for the return voyage. What?s a little raindrops on the wingtips wen you travel in style.

Are you telling me that Cord 810/812's leaked water through the cowl vents even when they were new?

Didn't customers complain about this? This seems like a pretty major problem.

Classic Car owners do their best to avoid inclimate weather to protect their cars. But 70 years ago, these cars were everyday transportation so you know they got wet alot.

My Cabriolet's top is completely off now while the top irons are being rechromed and a new fabric top is being made.

How is that for a big leak? Here's hoping that it is sunny for the parade!!

Hi! I thought my Cord had a "catch basin" and tube to carry off the incoming water, then I realized those are for the hood hinges. I do have the "filler" set-up on the passenger side, and it has a drain hole I believe. I will look. It isn't hooked up since I installed the s/c engine. Before doing that it never leaked in the rain! The passenger sometimes got excited when the engine was running hot, and I accelerated just so, causing very hot water to gush out the water intake and make the underside of the dash similar to some of the hot springs I have seen at Yellowstone : <!-- s:? --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_confused.gif" alt=":?" title="Confused" /><!-- s:? --> Ric.

The Auburn has a drain and a "funnel" while the Cord does not.

Years ago, the Heart of America ACD Meet as it was known, was held in Topeka, KS. A club member with 2 Cords loaned me his cabriolet. After a trip around town and out to the governors mansion we were going back to the host hotel and it began to rain. The top was already down so we stopped and put it up. At the hotel we took a towel and dried the interior and apologized to the owner. He was amazed - he said they had been trying to put the top up for months and it wouldn't budge! You still get wet feet from the cowl vents.

Us Cord sedan guys, love, only to get wet wet in a Cord from the windshields or the cowl vents. Never caught with the top down. Thanks Josh for reminding all to to SAVE all the sedans. My second Custom was about as incomplete as they get, but wil someday be complete and looking good.
