The color, I believe, was called "China Black". When I bought my car it had the original paint on the taillight housings. The underside was either a glossy black aged for forty years or a glossy very dark brown.

Incidentally, the weatherseal on a Westchester had no bead.

I understand that the tail-lite housings are now painted a different color,I understand that new research has revealed the factory used the tail-lite housings as supplied by the manufacturer with them painted. Is this correct and what is that color and is there a paint # for this paint product or can one buy spray paint over the counter?
